2026 Ford Mustang

2026 Ford
Mustang

Ford drummed up some anticipation for the 2026 Mustang, even though it’s not a redesign. Most of the buzz concerns the new FX appearance package for the GT Premium. Inspired by the Fox-body era, this option brings retro design cues inside and out, including white-painted wheels, classic badging, and available white-out taillights. The theme continues inside with plaid perforated-leather seat inserts, blue and silver stitching, and carbon-fiber accents from the Dark Horse. Beyond the FX package, the Dark Horse Fastback becomes the first vehicle in its segment (sports cars with available horsepower of 300+) to get a drift brake (track use only), and two metallic paint options join the palette: Adriatic Blue and Orange Fury.

Trims, Body Styles, and Powertrains

The 2026 Mustang comes in six trims: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, Dark Horse, and Dark Horse Premium. The Fastback coupe is the standard body style for all trims, while the Convertible variant is optional for the EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium.

The EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium use a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder producing 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque; it’s paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission. The GT and GT Premium feature a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 making 480 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Dark Horse editions use the same engine tuned for 500 horsepower and 418 lb.-ft. of torque. All V8 versions include a six-speed manual gearbox, with the Dark Horse getting a TREMEC six-speed manual. A ten-speed automatic is available in conjunction with the V8.

The EcoBoost 2.3-liter engine is EPA-rated for 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The estimated fuel economy for the 5.0-liter V8 in the GT with an automatic transmission is 16 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the open road. These ratings drop by a single mpg with the manual gearbox. The two Dark Horse trims are rated to return 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with either transmission.

Standard Features

The base EcoBoost features LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps and sequential taillights, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.4-inch digital instrument display, fabric upholstery, and a vinyl-trimmed flat-bottomed steering wheel. It also has proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, power side mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a 50/50 split-folding rear seat (Fastback only), dual exhausts, two USB ports, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The EcoBoost Convertible adds a power-operated fabric top, heated front seats, a six-way power driver's seat, and a perimeter alarm.

Upgrades for the EcoBoost Premium include ActiveX leatherette upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a six-way power driver's seat, a four-way power front passenger seat, upgraded interior accents, exterior approach-detection lighting, multi-color ambient cabin lighting, and a mirror-mounted USB port (for dashcams and other electronics). The EcoBoost Premium Convertible also has a panoramic curved display, a driver's memory system, premier interior accents, and aluminum pedals.

The Mustang GT is outfitted similarly to the base EcoBoost, but it has extra equipment to better support the V8’s power. This hardware includes a 3.55 limited-slip rear axle, large brake rotors, four-piston fixed brake calipers, rev matching (manual transmission), a larger-diameter exhaust system, and a hood vent. The GT also has a distinct front fascia and other exterior treatments. The GT Convertible has heated front seats, a six-way power driver's seat, and multi-color ambient cabin lighting. The GT Premium has the same enhancements as the EcoBoost Premium, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror and 19-inch wheels. Likewise, the GT Premium Convertible has the same features as the EcoBoost Premium Convertible.

The Dark Horse continues with the GT’s amenities with upgrades like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a six-way power driver's seat, a panoramic curved display, cloth and vinyl-trimmed seating, and multi-color ambient cabin lighting. It also has a performance rear wing, front tow hooks, and exclusive exterior treatments. What really separates the Dark Horse from other Mustangs is its numerous performance enhancements, including unique chassis tuning, Brembo brakes, a Torsen rear differential, a MagneRide damping system, an active-valve performance exhaust system, heavy-duty front springs, a K-brace, coolers for the engine oil, transmission, and differential, and modified anti-lock brakes and stability control. The Dark Horse Premium gets heated and cooled front seats, a driver's memory system, and other upgrades.

Advanced Safety Technology

All 2026 Mustangs have the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assistance aids. This bundle consists of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert with braking, lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping assist, road departure warning, and automatic high beams. All trims have rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control is standard on both Dark Horse grades and is optional on the lower trims except the base EcoBoost. Standard across the board are a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a backup monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Mustang’s infotainment is built around a 13.2-inch touchscreen and Ford’s SYNC 4 system. The platform features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and access to the Ford Connectivity Package. SiriusXM satellite radio is optional on the base EcoBoost Fastback and standard on the higher trims. Connected navigation is standard for both Dark Horse versions and optional on the EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium. Six-speaker audio is the rule on the EcoBoost and GT Fastbacks, while the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, GT Premium Fastback, and all Convertible variants instead get a nine-speaker upgrade. A 12-speaker B and O setup is standard for the two Dark Horse trims.
