2025 Ford Maverick

2025 Ford
Maverick

The Maverick has been just the ticket for drivers who want a pickup’s versatility without the bulk and price tag. Ford has refreshed the strong-selling small truck with redesigned grilles, bumpers, and headlight accents and added two new trims for 2025. The debuting Lobo is defined by a lowered sport-tuned suspension, an exclusive 7-speed transmission, performance brakes, and a special Lobo Mode for a track-driving feel. On the off-road side of things, the Tremor, which used to be the name of an optional package, has become a separate trim with trail-oriented amenities like a specially tuned suspension, an electronic locking rear differential, and the higher ground clearance.

The carryover trims also see improvements for 2025, starting with a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment array with wireless smartphone connectivity. The luxurious Lariat shows off a fresh Smoke Truffle interior. The top two trims receive a wider array of Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 driver-assist technology, while the hybrid version is now available with an all-wheel drivetrain.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2025 Maverick offers drivers five trim packages: XL, XLT, Lobo, Lariat, and Tremor. The standard powertrain for the XL, XLT, and Lariat is a hybrid system that pairs a 2.5-liter engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with one electric motor; the combined output is 191 combined horsepower and 155 lb.-ft. of torque. The Lobo and Tremor forgo the electric motor and upgrade to a 2-liter EcoBoost engine that puts out 250 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The Lobo completes its powertrain with an exclusive 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, while the Tremor gets an 8-speed automatic. The 2-liter EcoBoost and 8-speed automatic are available on all Maverick grades except the Lobo.

The XL and XLT come standard with a front-wheel drivetrain (FWD), with the option for all-wheel drive (AWD), which is the sole drivetrain for the Lariat. The Lobo and Tremor come standard with Ford’s Advanced four-wheel drivetrain (4WD). Fuel economy is outstanding for the XL, XLT, and Lariat: their 2.5-liter hybrid powerplant with the CVT returns an estimated 42 mpg city/35 mpg highway with FWD, dipping to 40 city/34 highway with 4WD. The Tremor’s 2-liter EcoBoost/8-speed automatic pairing achieves 21 city/27 highway, increasing to 22 city/30 highway for the XL, XLT, or Lariat. The Lobo’s powertrain returns 21 city/30 highway.

Configuration and Other Specs

The Maverick is built in just one configuration: a five-seat cab with a 54.4-inch bed. Ford’s Flexbed Storage System allows for bed customization with compatible accessories, and the Multi-Position Tailgate can lock into multiple positions for ease of loading and hauling. The Lobo comes with a performance-tuned suspension, modified brakes, and Lobo Mode, a trim-exclusive drive setting that adjusts gear ratios and throttle response for a track-inspired driving experience. With 7.4 inches of ground clearance, it also rides lower than the other trims. The Tremor is trail-ready, riding high – 9.1 inches off the ground – on an off-road-tuned suspension. It is also outfitted with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with an electronic locking rear differential and Ford Trail Control off-road mode.

The other trims’ ground clearance depends on the powertrain; there’s 8.1 inches of clearance with the 2.5-liter engine and 8.3 inches with the 2-liter EcoBoost. All Mavericks have a 2,000-pound base towing limit. The XL, XLT, and Lariat can increase the towing capacity to 4,000 pounds when they are properly equipped with AWD and the available 4K Tow Package, which adds a Class III trailer hitch with a 2-inch receiver and a 4-pin or 7-pin connector.

A power moonroof is available on all trims except the XL.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Every Maverick has elements of Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite, including pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and a rearview camera. The Lobo gets Ford’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic brake assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, dynamic brake support, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, lane departure warning, lane keeping system, Driver Alert, a reverse sensing system, and post-collision braking (the XL and XLT may add these technologies as an optional package). The Lariat and Tremor include Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 with evasive steering assist, speed sign recognition, intersection assist, and a 360-degree camera with trailer reverse guidance.

The Lariat and Tremor see their audio situation improved with a Bang and Olufsen audio system with HD Radio, eight speakers, and a subwoofer.
