2025 Ford Expedition

With its blend of attributes from ruggedness to refinement, the redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition stands out in the three-row SUV class. It’s the ideal solution for a family in need of space, an adventurer craving off-road excitement, or someone who simply values uncompromising performance and utility. Ford has introduced a host of new features aimed at making the ‘25 Expedition more practical than its predecessor. Chief among these is the innovative Split Gate, a game-changer that combines the convenience of a traditional SUV liftgate with the functionality of a pickup truck tailgate. The top three-quarters operates as a liftgate, while the lower quarter folds down like a tailgate and can support up to 500 pounds. Plus, a 360-degree zone lighting system is now available to help illuminate surroundings after the sun’s gone down.

Cargo access has also been improved for passengers in the first and second rows. The available Flex Powered Console slides back nearly eight inches at the push of a button, opening up a secure storage space for valuables while also giving second-row passengers easier access to cup holders and controls for audio volume and climate settings. The Third Row Flexible Seating system comes with a middle bench seat that folds independently, creating a convenient center aisle that stretches from the Split Gate to the front console. Technology gets a significant upgrade as well with the Ford Digital Experience hub making its Expedition debut. Not only does this dashboard layout include a customizable 24-inch panoramic digital display, but its instrumentation panel is uniquely positioned near the base of the windshield, helping to keep the driver’s focus on the road.

The most exciting change to the ‘25 Expedition lineup is the first-ever Tremor version of the three-row SUV, which has been specifically designed to bolster its off-road credentials with tons of overlanding enhancements. Balancing premium comfort with rugged attributes, the Tremor is built for hardcore adventure, providing a best-in-class 10.6 inches of ground clearance, standard four-wheel drive, 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, and a high-output 3.5-liter V6 engine. Some of the other Tremor-specific features include a retuned suspension, Raptor-inspired running boards, integrated off-road auxiliary lighting, and comprehensive underbody protection.

Trims, Powertrains, and Performance

The trim levels for the 2025 Expedition are called Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch. They all have a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine mated to a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, but the output differs. In the Active, Platinum, and King Ranch, the engine generates 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. The Tremor’s higher-output version of the EcoBoost V6 boosts performance to 440 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque.

Four-wheel drive (4WD) is standard on every grade except for the Active (which can add it as an option). Versions with 4WD come with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package with Auto Hitch. For heavier hauls, the Expedition can handle a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds without a load-leveling bar, but that limit increases to 9,600 pounds with the use of a weight distribution hitch.

As previously mentioned, the Tremor is uniquely equipped for off-road driving with an electronic locking rear differential, high-flow exhaust system, heavy-duty 28MM engine radiator, modified Raptor skid plates (front and transmission underbody), fuel tank underbody protection, and a higher ride suspension with premium passive shocks. Off-road performance is optimized by custom drive modes, too, including Rock Crawl, Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist, and Trail One-Pedal Drive, allowing you to effortlessly navigate challenging terrain.
