BlueCruise can be used on 97% of controlled-access highways across the United States and Canada. On stretches of divided highway where there are marked lanes and no major intersections or traffic signals, the hands-free driving system can take over. An interior camera monitors the driver to make sure their eyes stay open and focused on the road. If that attention is lost, even for a second, the system will send out an alert for the operator to refocus.
Adaptive cruise control is the basis for the advanced driving system. While this technology has been popular for some time now for keeping vehicles a proper distance from others on the road, it now provides the basis for how BlueCruise works.
There are three different BlueCruise platforms available in select models.
BlueCruise is not the same as Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology. The Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite houses the advanced driver-assist features that have helped occupants remain safer on the road. BlueCruise works in conjunction with these systems to provide a hands-free driving experience on select roadways.

There are three different versions of the technology currently in use. BlueCruise 1.0 utilizes adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist to offer hands-free driving on prequalified road sections, known as the Hands-Free Blue Zones. BlueCruise 1.2 includes in-lane repositioning technology that gives the vehicle more space from adjacent cars by gently shifting it in the lane. It also uses lane change assist when the turn signal is activated to change lanes without the driver’s input. The newest version, BlueCruise 1.3, has been improved for better navigation on narrower curves and lanes.
