Trims, Powertrains, and Performance

The 2024 Ford Super Duty is an unrelenting pickup truck offered in six trims (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited) and three payload capacities (2500, 3500, and 4500). Depending on the chosen trim, the configurations may involve a regular cab, an extended cab (SuperCab), or crew cab (SuperCrew), with either a 6.75-foot or 8-foot cargo bed; there are short and long wheelbase options as well.

The engine lineup consists of two gasoline-powered V8s and two torque-heavy turbo-diesels. The base XL is equipped with a 6.8-liter gas V8 producing 405 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque. Meanwhile, the XLT and higher trims come with a 7.3-liter gas-burning V8 that churns out 430 hp and 485 lb.-ft. of torque (it’s also an option for the XL). The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel is available across the lineup in two variants: a standard version producing 475 hp and 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque and a High Output upgrade delivering 500 hp and 1,200 lb.-ft. of torque (this one is standard in the Limited). While the base XL comes with standard rear-wheel drive, it’s eligible for the four-wheel drive (4WD) that the other five trims get by default.

Remarkable Equipment

The base XL is a workhorse equipped with practical features, including vinyl upholstery, remote keyless entry, manually adjustable front seats, manual air conditioning, cruise control, a 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, automatic halogen headlights, heated tow mirrors, front tow hooks, and cargo-area tie-down points. Those who step up to the XLT will get cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, two 120V power outlets, and halogen fog lights.

The Lariat enhances the experience with leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with power tilt-and-telescopic adjustability, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and position memory settings for the pedals and driver’s seat. The exterior upgrades on this midgrade trim consist of LED headlights and fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding/telescopic trailering mirrors with LED spotlights, a remote-release tailgate, and a power-sliding rear window.

The western-themed King Ranch doubles down on luxury with unique leather upholstery, a head-up display, power-deployable running boards, and Ford’s bed-mounted 2-kW Pro Power Onboard generator for powering external devices. It also gets advanced trailering tech, such as onboard scales that use suspension sensors to measure towing and payload weight, trailer hitch assist, and trailer backup assist. The Platinum offers a similarly high-level experience, but it trades the King Ranch’s rustic aesthetic for a more upscale design, plus LED projector headlights and taillights. The Limited trim provides the ultimate in luxury with exclusive two-tone leather seats, a twin-panel moonroof, reclining front seats with extra power settings, and a synthetic-suede headliner.

Driver-Assist Features

Every 2024 Super Duty trim has some form of driver-assistance technology. The XL comes with trailer sway control and hill start assist, while the XLT adds forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pre-collision assist, and automatic high beams. The Lariat takes safety further with a surround-view camera, reverse braking assistance, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, intersection assist, and trailer reverse guidance. With the King Ranch and higher trims, you’ll get adaptive cruise control with speed sign recognition, pedestrian detection, dynamic brake support, lane keeping assist, driver attention alert, post-collision braking, and front parking sensors. The Limited is fully loaded, adding active lane centering.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Ford’s advanced SYNC 4 infotainment system is standard fare in the Super Duty. The XL and XLT get an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. The Lariat and higher move up to a 12-inch touchscreen system with navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system with eight speakers. For a more refined audio experience, look to the King Ranch and above, which are graced with a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed sound system as well as HD Radio.

Packages and Options

Some of the desirable features that come standard on the more expensive trims can be added to lower trims as options. For example, the available FX4 Off-Road Package will add hill descent control, off-road shock absorbers, and skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank. The formidable Tremor Off-Road Package provides those same skid plates, along with an electronic locking rear differential, a limited-slip front differential, an upgraded suspension with increased ride height, meatier off-road tires, a revised front air dam with better approach angles, off-road running boards, a Rock Crawl driving mode, and Trail Control off-road cruise control.
