Overview

Sporty good looks and pleasurable performance go a long way in capturing the attention of today’s drivers, and the 2022 Ford EcoSport has both of those desirable qualities in spades. This five-passenger subcompact crossover made its market debut in the U.S. in 2018 and has since been a favorable choice among shoppers searching for an affordable, stylish, practical, and easy-to-maneuver vehicle. Among the improvements for 2022, the EcoSport now comes with standard all-wheel drive, and the entry-level turbocharged three-cylinder engine has been axed in favor of a non-turbo four-cylinder.

Trims and Powertrain

Ford makes the 2022 EcoSport in four trim levels: S, SE, SES, and Titanium. Each has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (166 horsepower) and a six-speed automatic transmission. As we said above, standard all-wheel drive is now the rule. According to the EPA’s official fuel economy estimates, the EcoSport achieves 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway regardless of trim level. Although you might not expect this size vehicle to boast any towing specs, the ’22 EcoSport can pull up to 2,000 pounds.

Features by Trim Level

While the entry-level S mostly has the basics (cloth upholstery, manual air conditioning, two 12-volt power outlets, and two USB charging ports), the SE gets a longer list, with fog lights, roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a moonroof, and an adjustable cargo shelf. The SES ramps things up with a sport-tuned suspension, rain-sensing wipers, a power driver’s seat, synthetic leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 110V power outlet, and ambient interior lighting. It’s also great for winter driving, with its heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. The range-topping Titanium doesn’t get the sport-tuned suspension, but it gets the other aforementioned features, plus perforated upholstery.

Entertainment and Connectivity Systems

The S trim has Ford’s basic SYNC system which includes a 4.2-inch central display, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system. The SE turns up the desirability dial with the more advanced SYNC 3 infotainment system and its 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The SES is provided with a seven-speaker sound system and navigation, while the Titanium upgrades to a top-spec Bang & Olufsen (B&O) audio unit with 10 booming speakers and a subwoofer.

Enhanced Safety Technologies

A few advanced safety features are available for the ’22 EcoSport. While every trim has Ford’s Safety Canopy airbag system, the SE gets front parking sensors and is eligible for blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The blind-spot monitoring/rear cross-traffic alert system is standard in the SES and Titanium, as are rear parking sensors.

Packages

A series of noteworthy packages are available for the 2022 EcoSport. The SE can be ordered with the Convenience Package, which bundles blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, ambient interior lighting, and a 110V power outlet. The SE is also eligible for the Appearance Package, which delivers a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and orange interior trim. The Interior Protection Package is available for the SE, SES, and Titanium and provides a cargo mat and front and rear floor liners.
