The S is a traditional base trim with all of the necessities. For instance, the seats are upholstered with cloth and the air conditioning is operated manually. But it’s set up for today’s connectivity needs with two USB charging ports and the basic version of Ford’s SYNC infotainment system, which has a 4.2-inch display, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. There’s also a pair of 12V power outlets should you need to plug something in. For safety, the EcoSport S has Ford’s Safety Canopy airbag system.
The standard features ramp up with the SE, starting with heated front seats, a moonroof, automatic climate control, keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, keyless ignition, and an adjustable cargo shelf. This trim’s exterior is enhanced with fog lights and roof rails. It also moves up to the more advanced SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
The safety factor is increased with the addition of front parking sensors; a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is an option as part of the Convenience Package, an optional bundle that also includes navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, ambient interior lighting, and a 110V power outlet. The Appearance Package (a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and orange interior accents) is also available, as is the Interior Protection Package (a cargo mat and front and rear floor liners).
The second S in SES clearly stands for sporty, as it upgrades its suspension, and adds a bunch of features, some of which are part of the SE’s Convenience Package. The roster includes ambient interior lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, synthetic leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 110V power outlet. This is the trim to choose for winter comfort, as it has a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and heated exterior mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators.
Navigation is added to the SES’s SYNC 3 system, and the audio system gets seven speakers. Rear parking sensors and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert enhance the safety technology suite. This trim also qualifies for the optional Interior Protection Package.
The Titanium is loaded with extras (although it reverts to the standard suspension), such as perforated upholstery and a top-quality Bang & Olufsen sound system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer. As with the SE and SES, the Interior Protection Package can be added for a cargo mat and front and rear floor mats.
